I finished The Maze Runner by James Dashner and I wasn't totally impressed. Actually, I was a little bored. I kept putting this book down and then I found myself skimming the page instead of reading each word-not a good sign! I feel like the author never really got me into the story- who is Thomas or Tommy or Tom- seriously everyone calling him something different was really annoying to me. I liked the character of Newt and I really liked Teresa, but felt like each character was so one-dimensional. I never learn anything about them, who they are, what they feel, who they love or need. They were like paper doll characters that this author just moved in place and told what to do. Are you getting that I really didn't like this book?
So I am very curious for your thoughts? Every boy I talk with seems to love this book as much, if not more than Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins ( I really don't get that). So please tell me what you love about this book? What made it such a good read? Am I missing something- did you like the characters? Could you relate to them better than I could? What is the deal with this book? Help me understand!

I didn't love the maze runner, but didn't hate it. I had mixed feelings about different parts. It seemed like I didn't want to put the bood down one minute, then put it down because it didn't interest me. I hated the ending though. THe Flare? THats the best they could come up with? I dont want to say anymore and ruin it for someone though. Here is my review basically. THe author made the back of the book interesting and the beginning. THen people bought the book and he got his money. THat was all he cared about, so he rushed through the rest of the book to get his money and fake people into buying it. I think I could have written it much better

ReplyDeleteI think that the maze runner was a great book. It kept me in suspense the entire time, and i liked that, with all of the mystery. I also liked the action with the grievers and the fighting with Ben when he had just gone through "the changing" I think I
ReplyDeleteapeak for most people who read the book when i say that this book was a great book.
Too be flat out honest, I hated this book. The only decent part was the beginning which was an evil trick to lure you in. The rest? Well without ruining it, it was bad. The characters became weak and the plot became confused, as though the author was underground, in the dark.

Amazing book!!! Best Part
ReplyDeleteI burned the maps!!
NO he didn't
Great descriptive writing
Check it out Ms. Guiney
I thought that this book was great! I agree with anonymous that the best part was when the boy ( I forget all names, haven't read book in awhile, burns the fake maps. It is great descriptive writing and it pulls you in to what they are going to do next. I hoped they would not have hidden the real maps, but that is how the story was written. I think it tied the maze runner in action/plot/and style! 2 thumbs up!

Thanks for the new comments, Anonymous(my guess: Cam Morrissey), Jeff Gailius, and Charles Harrington. I agree with both Anonymous and Jeff about the part with the maps that was a good twist and fun to read. Overall, I still think the plotline was too slow. There should be a sequel coming soon and I might be talked into reading it!
